High Commissioner to Nauru
Sara Moriarty
Sara Moriarty has 30 years of service in the Australian Public Service, holding positions across policy and corporate areas. Prior to her appointment as High Commissioner to Nauru, her most recent appointments in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade were as Director Indo-Pacific and Global Interests in the First Nations Foreign Policy Taskforce, and Director Solomon Islands section. She served as Australia’s High Commissioner to Samoa from 2018 to 2022.
Sara joined the former Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) in 2004 and managed sections responsible for the Caribbean, and Public Sector Governance in the Pacific. From 2011 to 2013, she was Counsellor, Climate Change, at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Prior to joining AusAID, Sara worked at the Department of Defence on International Policy and Defence cooperation programs with Indonesia and East Timor sections. She was posted to Jakarta from 1999-2002 as First Secretary Defence Policy.
Before joining the Australian public service, Sara worked as a teacher and consultant on technical writing for the private sector. Sara holds a Master’s degree in International Studies and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney. She is married with two adult children.
